Stimulus Update: Deadline for claiming checks worth up to $800 in South Carolina within 15 days

south carolina rresidents have just over two weeks to file their 2021 taxes and receive a rebate of up to $800.

The tax credit, which will be issued to recipients in March, is available to all South Carolina residents who file their 2021 taxes before February 15, according to the U.S. Department of Revenue.

The amount of the credit depends on the applicant’s tax liability, which is defined by the IRS as the amount of income tax a resident owes for the 2021 tax year. If a resident has paid less than $800 in state taxes, the credit is equal to the amount he paid. Anyone who had to pay more than $800 in state taxes gets $800 for the rebate.

The previous filing deadline set by the department for this rebate was October 17, 2022. Those who filed their 2021 taxes by then received their rebate before the end of last year.

A rebate tracker is available online for recipients to check the status of their payments. To use this tracker, recipients will need their social security number or their individual taxpayer identification number in addition to line 10 of their 2021 SC1040 income tax form.
